Speechless

I’m really not sure what to say in response to this. More specifically, to the reference to me in there.

Update: I should clarify that I found Wolf’s note funny (especially because I didn’t know about it in advance) and figured that if he’d throw in a random amusing comment about me I probably should at least acknowledge it….

I do wonder if perhaps I’m the least wild developer in his late 20s in the Bay Area. Quite possibly. Or maybe the least social one. Not that I mind terribly…it’s just the way I am. Just don’t invite me to go out drinking with you, since you’ll make me feel guilty about not wanting to come along. Not that I’m opposed to alcohol; I just don’t really care for it and don’t see the point in paying lots of money to drink stuff I don’t like. For example, last night at the 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower, the wine guru at the table ordered an assortment of bottles. I asked folks to recommend one for me and they picked something or other that was supposed to be excellent. It tasted like Passover wine. That’s not good. I had a bit less than my standard one-third of a glass and probably should’ve ordered a Coke instead.

Heeeeeeeeeeey- I can assure you that you aren’t the least social developer in the area. I know of at least one or two more in the greater SF area that are complete hermits, and I really don’t know that many people out there.

You went out of your way to come pick me up for lunch when I was visiting out there a couple of years ago so I can vouch for you being social. And I was a complete stranger!

Anyway- wolf is just having fun, and I wouldn’t take it personally. I’m sure he meant it in the nicest way possible. If you want to get back at him, add some hooks into the os to throw random crashes for anyone with a uid of “rentzsch”. hehe.

Sorry man, I just saw how you were hitting those wasabi peas at the last MacHack you went to, and deduced from there. Who knew assumptions based on wasbi pea consumption could prove so wrong?

Hey, there are others of us in our late 20s that aren’t exactly wild here too.

You should definitely come to Tommy’s the next time there’s an agave run - they have some truly excellent tequilas. (Oh, wait…)

You’d better be careful, dude, or I might try to recruit you into my fantasy baseball league next season!

I know, because I’ve seen with my own eyes, that Eric can drink any three Mac developers under the table with one hand tied behind his back. Is this all some kind of ironic jest?

(Of course, it’s possible that I’m remembering this entirely wrong. ;)

Look out or you’ll befall the same fate as John Vink, e.g. http://www.crazyapplerumors.com/archives/000363.html

Gotta say, since I stopped ordering drinks, my restaurant bills have dropped noticeably.

I am always surprised when an appetizer made of expensize ingredients and that takes a fair amount of effort to make costs the same as a simple cocktail with a buck’s worth of rum and bottled mixer.

As Eric’s former roommate and as a twentysomething girl, I can honestly attest that Eric is NOT the least wild developer in his mid- 20s in the Bay Area. Eric can talk for hours, enjoys watching movies, and loves to eat out. (Adrienne is one lucky girl!)

I’m a huge fan of techies, but there truly are men in Silicon Valley who are anti-social or lack social skills. And, Eric is not one of them!

I’m with you Eric, I was pretty anti-social when I was living in the valley too. Just remember, its not you… your the normal one…

Drinking alcohol beverages for their flavor isn’t really the point, and with wine its doubly so. As any suitable wine snob would tell you, there is a huge difference between good wine and good tasting wine… Be thankful you haven’t learned to swill vile tasting crap and expound on its earthy richness!

Now, drinking alcoholic beverages for their debilitating effects on logic and reasoning… that is an entirely a different matter 8)
