A bit too much attention
I’ve seen a couple folks write up things about the difference I’ve made in helping along the transition. That’s rather nice of them…but it’s far more attention than I deserve (and a lot more than I’d like). I’m just an engineer. I don’t manage people, I’m not a tech lead, and I don’t provide project direction. Many people worked on this in a variety of capacities. I’d prefer not to be singled out, especially in the context of “Eric’s team” or things like that which imply something that isn’t true.
In other words, if you’re happy with Apple’s products, thank all of Apple, not just one engineer. And please don’t look to this site as a resource similar to what Dave Hyatt does with Surfin’ Safari; this is my personal weblog and I’d rather take it down altogether than have anyone consider what I say here as being semi-official or have this be a place to look for Apple announcements.

I think it’s a tricky thing. Apple goes so far out of its way not to put a human face on the developers in the trenches…when we hear about folks who are working on components of applications or an operating system wherein we spend much of our days, well, it’s only natural for folks to want to reach out, connect, and say thanks.
Simultaneously, I think most of us in the outside world understand what’s involved in being a blogger within a corporate structure. Further, when you’re part of a team and you’re talking when your colleagues aren’t or aren’t as much, the imbalance just kinda naturally occurs.
Let me just say here that we’re connecting with you on behalf of your team (of which we understand you’re just one guy, not the leader.) I think we’d be very grateful if you didn’t shut this down, and if you and your colleagues maintain as much of a semi- or semi-semi-official link as you can stand. Go silent for a while, but don’t cut the cord…sometimes you’ll stimulate some good ideas amidst the foomfah.
And did I say thanks? Not just to you personally, got that? Go give everyone you work with a big hug from me. Go ahead, we’ll wait.

My apologies for contributing to the attention. It wasn’t my desire to make you uncomfortable or single you out. I’ve removed my post - but please do have a good vacation.
