Brr…
My heat at home had been working sporadically for a week or two before it finally decided to quit working altogether earlier this week. My landlord came by this afternoon and poked at it and a couple hours and a visit from an electrician later he’s found a broken solenoid or something like that. Apparently those can’t be purchased on weekends, so I’m going to be cold till Monday. I’ll just pretend I’m in Lambeau Field when watching the Super Bowl tomorrow, I suppose.
Actually, it’s a good thing I’m in the Bay Area rather than, say, Boston. When I say it’s cold here, that means it gets down to 62 or so without the heat. If we had a sudden cold snap it’d be another story, but even if that happened I wouldn’t be able to leave my ice cream out in the living room without having it melt.

Ooh, 67 degrees. We hit 49 today (about 45min north of Boston) and I saw people on the highway with their convertibles open.

Seriously, losing your heat sucks. Sorry to hear that.

The last time I was actually in Lambeau Field was a December game against the Oakland Raiders. Even without the wind, the temperature was 0 degress Farenheit. With the wind, it was 17 below. Took more than a sweater, a warm fire and a cup of hot chocolate to warm up after that one. 62 degrees would have felt like t-shirt weather.

You know, we haven’t used the heat in our apartment in about four years. We used it the first winter we were here, a couple of times, and decided it wasn’t worth the bother (and the smell of toasted dust) since it’s just in-wall electric heaters anyway, and the wall space seemed more useful for putting bookshelves.

Oh man, are you kidding me? I’ve been thinking the last few weeks out here, that we should start softball season already. These Bay Area winters are ridiculous…
A far cry from little league tryouts in Worcester, Mass where you’d be wearing gloves under your glove and fielding grounders from out of a couple inches of snow… (walking uphill, both ways, through nine feet snowdrifts, yada yada… : ) )
